Pediatric Hearing Issues

Trouble Hearing or Speaking Clearly? It May Be a Hearing Problem

Hearing plays a key role in your child’s speech, learning, and social development. At ENT Sinus Center of Orlando, we evaluate and treat pediatric hearing issues early — so your child can grow and thrive with confidence.

  • Children often can’t express when they’re not hearing well. Many hearing problems are gradual or subtle, and may not be noticed until they start to affect speech, school performance, or behavior.
Early detection and treatment is essential for:● Healthy language development● Social interaction● Success in school● Preventing long-term delays

  • Doesn’t respond to sounds or name being called● Delayed speech or unclear speech● Frequently asks “What?” or turns the volume up high● Difficulty following directions● Watches others to mimic what was said● Easily distracted or struggles to stay focused● Academic or behavioral concerns in school

  • ● Chronic ear infections (fluid behind the eardrum)● Congenital hearing loss (present at birth)● Middle ear fluid (otitis media with effusion)● Excessive earwax● Infections (measles, meningitis, CMV)● Noise exposure (loud music, toys, environments)● Genetic or syndromic causes

  • Depending on your child’s age and development, we may perform:● Otoacoustic emissions (OAE): measures response to sound● Tympanometry: checks eardrum movement and middle ear pressure● Pure tone audiometry: tests hearing sensitivity across pitches● Speech recognition tests: assesses how well speech is understood
We work closely with audiologists and pediatric specialists to ensure accurate diagnosis.

  • ● Ear tube placement for fluid-related hearing loss● Antibiotics for infection● Hearing aids for conductive or sensorineural hearing loss● Speech and language therapy (as needed)● Referral to early intervention services for developmental support
We create a treatment plan based on the type, cause, and severity of hearing loss — and support your family every step of the way.

  • Schedule an evaluation if your child:● Has frequent ear infections● Isn’t speaking clearly or on time● Responds inconsistently to sound● Struggles academically or socially● Has a family history of hearing problems
